When I was pregnant with my first son in 2015, we decided to take a hiatus from living in NYC and move our home base to Los Angeles.  Being a California native, something about pregnancy triggered a desire to return West where the climate is gentler and space is more abundant.  We found a house that my husband visited in person but I only got to see once over FaceTime before committing to. I harnessed all the nesting hormones I had and planned a long-distance renovation and decoration of a house I had never seen in person, working from photos and floor plans alone.  It was a project we miraculously finished and moved into days before I gave birth.

I’m pregnant again, and decided to do the exact same thing in reverse; this time orchestrating a gut renovation and redecoration of our NYC loft which has been my home for over a decade.  Unlike our house in LA, I had years of accumulated ideas about how I wanted to transform this space which I know like the back of my hand. However, given the complexity of my bicoastal working mom life, I would also only be able to make one site visit over the course of the renovation.  Therefore I needed to be super organized and resourceful with my approach to executing my vision and that meant working with the best of the best- and in the case of furnishing the majority of the space, that meant working with Perigold.

Perigold is a relatively new treasure to the online furniture and decor space.  The new luxury arm of the Wayfair family, they offer the best technology and service and have an unparalleled selection of designer goods.  When you are browsing Perigold, it’s like taking a walk through the D&D building in NYC or the Pacific Design Center in LA, which was a godsend for me because I didn’t have the bandwidth to do that kind of legwork for this project.

One of my favorite tools on Perigold.com is their Room Planner which allows you to visualize all the pieces you’ve selected against the backdrop of your choice.  This was so helpful to my process since I didn’t have the luxury of seeing everything together until installation. I was able to plan my entire living room, dining room, and master bedroom this way.  They also offer free white glove delivery and complimentary concierge service. I literally didn’t have to lift a finger (except to point) when everything arrived thanks to their full service offering. When you are installing a whole apartment worth of furniture in one day, while 8.5 months pregnant, that counts for a lot!  Thank you Perigold!
